Personalising cards: custom meanings & sentences
Customise words with custom meanings and sentences.

A word can stick better when the explanation is yours. You can attach a note or mnemonic to any word and your own example sentences to any reading, which will be displayed during your SRS studies.
Both need you to be logged in.
Your own note
Open a word page and look under Meanings for Add your own notes. Fill in what you don't get from the dictionaries: a nuance, a mnemonic, anything hthat will help you remember it.
- Up to 500 characters.
You can format it with
**bold**,*italic*and lines starting with-for a list. A Preview appears under the box as you type. - The note belongs to the word, so every form of it shows the same note.
Saving again overwrites the note, and you can Delete it at any time.
On your study cards the note appears as the Custom notes block, which sits on the back of the default layout. You can rearrange it or remove it under Settings โ Study (SRS) with Customise layout (advanced).
Your own example sentences
A sentence from something you actually watched can beat a random sentence from the corpus thanks to the memories you have associated to it.
You can add up to 3 custom sentences per reading, or 10 with Jiten+. Each one can be up to 150 characters, with an optional source line. There's 3 ways to add one:
- Star a sentence you like. The example sentence become yours and you can edit it as you want. It will be shown on the vocabulary page and during your SRS studies.
- Edit it first. The pencil opens an editor with the sentence loaded, so you can edit it before saving. The original is left alone.
- Write your own. The pencil beside the Example sentences heading opens Custom Example Sentences, where you can add, edit and delete them freely.
Wrap the word you want highlighted in double asterisks, like **้ฃในใ**.
The star and the pencil are both there during reviews too, so a sentence you like on a card can be kept without leaving the session.
Once a reading has one custom sentence, its cards show one of yours at random and stop showing corpus sentences by default. You can still read the corpus ones behind See more sentences on the card.
Mining a word together with its sentence from Jiten Reader add the example sentence as well as the source directly.
Pick a sentence where the target word is the only thing you do not understand (i+1).
