# Jiten

> Jiten (jiten.moe) is a free, open-source platform for learning Japanese through immersion. It analyses real Japanese media (anime and drama subtitles, visual novels, books, manga, web novels) and publishes per-title statistics: vocabulary and frequency lists, difficulty ratings, character counts, and personal comprehension coverage. Learners use it to pick media at their level, generate Anki decks, and study vocabulary with the built-in FSRS spaced-repetition system.

Key facts:
- Every title in the media library has a full vocabulary list ordered by frequency, a difficulty rating, and length statistics derived from the actual text.
- Registered users can track known words and see what percentage of any title they can understand.
- Jiten Reader is a companion browser extension: a pop-up dictionary with per-word knowledge tracking that works on webpages and readers such as Ttsu, Asbplayer, and Mokuro.

- Dictionary data comes from JMdict; site data (decks, frequency lists) has its own licensing terms, described in the licensing guide below.
